Nsukka, Enugu State — The Neighbourhood Watch in Ibagwa-Ani community foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued seven victims unharmed late Thursday evening, in what residents are describing as a swift and coordinated security response.
According to community sources, the incident occurred when assailants attacked members of the community and forcibly took them into the bush. His Royal Highness, Cyril N. Asogwa, Ibagwa I of Ibagwa-Ani Ancient Kingdom, immediately alerted the Council Chairman upon learning of the attack, triggering a rapid search-and-rescue operation.
All seven victims were reportedly rescued unharmed and are currently in safe hands, according to the community account.
Security Investments Credited for Response
The successful rescue is being linked to ongoing security investments by the Nsukka Local Government Area administration under Executive Chairman, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, who has made the security of lives and property a stated priority across the council area.
His administration’s security measures reportedly include:
- Recruitment of 10 neighbourhood watch personnel per community
- Procurement of a Toyota Sienna patrol bus and other security equipment
- Deployment of surveillance drones
- Retraining of neighbourhood watch personnel
- Regular supervision of security operatives
- Periodic security meetings across the council area
Community sources say these sustained efforts have contributed to visible improvements in local security across communities in Nsukka LGA.
